India signed the Pax Silica declaration at the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi on Friday, formally joining a US-led coalition aimed at securing global supply chains for critical minerals and AI infrastructure. The alliance—already counting Japan, Australia, South Korea, and the UK among its members—seeks to reduce dependence on China, which controls over 90 percent of India’s rare earth imports. Membership could accelerate India’s semiconductor and AI ambitions significantly.
